|Syros, 26th - 28th may 2006|
We are writing to you about the 5 th Syros Workshop. As you may know, the 1st workshop was organized at the end of May 1998, the 2nd at the beginning of June 1999, the 3rd at the end of May 2001 and the 4 th at the beginning of June 2003. This event was designed to combine a) the rigorous scientific work that a meeting with limited participants and with plenty of time for discussion would permit, b) the pleasure that a good company on a Greek island at the beginning of summer could offer. Our expectations were that such a meeting could create a working, collaborative and relaxing atmosphere and until now, it seems that we have reached our goal.
The workshop is planed to have a group of no more than 25-30 colleagues. The psychoanalyst invited speaker will present a paper and will discuss it with the group. Relative clinical material will be presented by other colleagues that will also be discussed extensively by the group. The invited speaker for this year is Roberto Basile and the main theme will be " Micro-Mega: treating children and adults. The same analysis with similarities and differences ". When a child grows new layers are added to his original psychic nucleus, that, however, remains. In this paper, Roberto Basile explores this model as applied to the treatment of both children and grown-ups. One must make sure he is speaking to the correct level involved at any one moment of the interaction. The process of psychoanalysis does not vary in this respect on the basis of the age of the patient. The analyst must always be there to welcome and transform the patient’s contents, no matter how old the patient is.
Some of you may remember Dr. Roberto Basile from Dresden EFPP Conference, where he run a workshop on peer review of psychoanalytic papers as representative of the international Journal of Psychoanalysis, or presenting C. Bollas’ paper on his absence.
Dr. Roberto Basile is psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Psychoanalysis and member of the Working Party on Comparative Clinical Methods of the European Federation of Psychoanalysis.
He has experience of work with adults and children. He has published papers in IJPA and Psychoanalytic Quarterly. His main interest is Bion’s thought in relation with Baranger’s field theory.
As usually another colleague will give the opportunity for further thought and discussion in relation with the ideas developed in the main paper.
The meeting is planned to be held in May from Friday 26 th to Sunday 28 th. This means that one has to arrive to Athens on Thursday, so to be able to get an airplane or ferry boat to Syros. The meeting will have an informal character and will follow the provisional timetable that follows. We always try one of the two small groups to be French speaking.
For registration use the printable registration form and either
We use to start late on Friday, leaving enough time for the participants to arrive at Syros. We will leave plenty of time during afternoon and evening for swimming and leisure. The participants have to share the expenses for the invited speaker/s, some minimal administrative expenses to cover secretarial assistance during the meeting as well as post/ phone/ fax expenses. The costs will be shared among all participants and it is expected to be 110 Euro per person.
In respect to the transfer of persons from their country of origin to Athens and then to the island of Syros and expenses invoiced, please note as follows:
Air tickets form the country of origin to Athens.
For accommodation, one will have to calculate a minimum of 40-50 Euro per night for each participant. Meals for each participant have to be expected around 25-35 Euro per day (this, of course, depends on what you wish to eat. You may find meals less expensive).
It is not possible to inform you so early for the timetable of boats and planes, as these are changing during the Summer time.
If you have to stay in Athens overnight (Thursday night), you should calculate with 70-100 Euro for hotel accommodation.
We hope that these 3 days will be full of exchanging and sharing ideas on scientific issues, in a relaxing atmosphere. At the same time - as we are only going to work half a day, it will be possible to have our holidays on this beautiful island. Let's mix business with pleasure.
Please, let us know as soon as possible, if you wish to participate, by sending back to us the attached registration slip.
It is understandable that as the number of participants is only limited, we will have to accommodate the would-be-participants according to the order in which the applications arrive.
We welcome you all and we will happy to give you any more information needed.
